With spring sports underway as scheduled and both the fall and winter seasons successfully completed, Dennis Stanton, Souderton Area High School Athletic Director, compiled figures that underscore the fact that the safety measures implemented worked.
More importantly, SOL athletes experienced a degree of welcome normalcy that accompanied competing in sports and did not deal with the isolation of not playing that that went hand in hand with last spring’s shutdown and cancellation of all sports. Competing in sports also provided mental and physical relief at a time when the student-athletes desperately needed it.
“Athletics is a major component in the overall high school experience for student-athletes,” Stanton said. “Being able to provide this experience for our student-athletes proved to be very positive during a challenging time.
“Observing the student-athletes genuine excitement in being able to play the sport they love – and in some cases for the last time – was beyond gratifying.”

“All of the accomplishments and successes this year in the Suburban One League are a direct result of proper planning by our athletic directors, the hard work and dedication of our coaching staff members, the diligence and care provided by our athletic trainers, compliance with COVID-19 mitigation procedures and efforts made by student athletes and the commitment of all other athletic personnel at our schools,” Central Bucks School District Athletic Director Danielle Turner said. “By working together, the Suburban One League has been able to provide an enormous amount of athletic opportunities for our student athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
