Coach Meghan Reilly says: “Shane was a great addition to the William Tennent team. He actually attended Catholic grade school and wasn’t sure what he wanted to do and was kind of back and forth what school he wanted to go to, and his parents had a pretty big sit-down conversation with my dad (Jamie Forlini) before he decided to make the jump over to Tennent – what does this mean to him coming from such a small school to a much, much bigger school? He went from 25 people in his grade class to now having 500 kids in his class. Honestly, I think William Tennent was the best place for Shane, and he thrived academically, socially and in sports.
“I could not be more proud of the man he has become, and I say that because he truly has become an individual that is willing to think about others before he thinks about himself. Shane experienced a pretty big loss his junior year. His best friend who was one of the swimmers on the team ended up committing suicide, and Shane has become one of the biggest advocates for mental health. He has really developed who he is as a person to bring light to suicide awareness. It was a tragic event, but Shane has learned and is now using it to better himself and also better anyone he talks to to advocate for mental health.”
