Coach Nick D’Aurizio says: “No matter where my guys are going – first and foremost, I want the priority to be school, but at the same time I love seeing my guys continuing to play hockey. I don’t care if it’s NCAA or club – I just want them to continue playing the game. Seeing a guy like Zach who I really cared so much about and was our captain last year, I want him to continue on because I do think he’s a great player and would be an asset to any team he plays on. I’m really happy he’s continuing to play.
“Zach’s one of those kids – which is rare nowadays – who was a multi-sport athlete like I was and a lot of my friends were back when we played in the late 90s. Now guys are so specialized, but these kids are athletes, and Zach is definitely an athlete. He’s got that athleticism, but he’s also got that mentality that any successful athlete needs and that is that warrior mentality, that competitive spirit but also understanding that it’s not all about him. He understands the value of a team. Things that you want guys to understand – Zach understands. Nowadays it’s harder to find those types of qualities in every single player. Zach was always the guy that even when he was younger – he got it. He wanted to be around the rink, he wanted to be part of the team, he wanted the team to be successful and would do anything for the team – that type of thing. Every kid doesn’t have that, and that’s what really set him apart.
“On the ice, the kid has all the tools. He can skate, he’s got a hard shot, he can play physical when you need him to, so he’s got those attributes as well. He’s the type of kid that as he gets older and more mature he’s just going to get better and better, and I’m excited to follow his progress in college.”
