PW 4 – Springfield 2

Halftime score: 4 – 1

Goals: Ella Clark (assist from Devyn Cohen), Abby Boegner (assist from Fiona Gooneratne), Fiona Gooneratne, and Liv Reilly (assist from Caelin Kosvitch)

Comments:

Junior midfielder Ella Clark opened the scoring early with a really nice finish off of a beautiful Devyn Cohen cross. Devyn Cohen earned her first start of the season today so it was exciting to see her create something early in the game.

Springfield answered quickly,. Kaleigh Evans, who had an outstanding game, scored off of a nice one-two.

PW earns a free kick shortly thereafter and Fiona Gooneratne plays a beautiful ball into the box. The keeper bobbles it and a hungry Abby Boegner in front of net scores another goal off of a set piece.

Later in the first half, Fiona Gooneratne puts pressure on their backline, steals the balls, and hits a beautiful shot from just outside the 18, right over the outstretched arms of the keeper for her fifth goal of the season.

Right before the half ended, PW earned a free kick from 45 yards out. Fiona Gooneratne plays another beautiful ball on the box. Caelin Kosvtich gets to it before the keeper and taps it to freshman Liv Reilly, who finishes it for the first goal of her high school career.

A lot of credit for today’s win goes to our sophomore center backs Meghan Wendler and Brianna Reynolds, who are growing in confidence by the game, and did a nice job dealing with a very dangerous Springfield attack.

All in all, it was a great team win today. We have a lot of work to do to get ourselves back in the mix but this team is willing to put the work in.
