Non-league
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, CARDINAL O’HARA 1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23)
The Hatters added another match in the win column with a tight and competitive match against a strong O’Hara squad. The Hatters had a huge night at the net and on the service line, hitting .323 as a team with 20 aces.
The offense was led by senior setter Grace Howard with 39 assists and four aces. At the net, senior Nastya Tsetsko and Izzy Bombas led the way with 17 and 12 kills respectively, and juniors Jade Lauzier and Kayla Jones added eight and five kills to the mix. Lauzier and Jones also added three and one block respectively.
The aces were spread around the board with Ava Santo (six), Kayla Jones (five), Abigail Kosmalski (four), Grace Howard (four) and Julie Reilly adding one at a crucial time in set four. Sophomore Emma O’Reilly filled in admirably for Cassidy Hudson, who sustained an injury in the second set, delivering a very timely block in the fourth set.
Hatboro-Horsham (8-2, 5-1 SOL) will be on the road at Abington on Thursday.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, VILLA JOSEPH MARIE 0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-21)
The Indians won a spirited match against their neighboring Jems to up their record to 12-0 on the season.
Senior captain Ashleigh Adams – the team’s top gun at outside hitter – also stepped into the role of setter on Monday, turning in yet another monster performance with 29 kills, three aces, two blocks, 17 digs and 26 assists. Junior outside Ainsley Jordan added six kills, 12 digs, two aces and one block. Senior captain and setter Kate Logan had 30 assists, 11 digs, one ace and one block while sophomore libero Emma McNulty had nine digs and one assist. Also contributing were senior outside Julia Murphy (four digs), junior opposite Sophia Lentz (four digs, two blocks), senior setter Becca Wintjen (three digs) and junior opposite (two digs).
NORTH PENN 3, ABINGTON 2 (25-18, 30-32, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13)
Kiley McTaggart was all but unstoppable at the net, leading the Knights with 27 kills to go along with 20 digs and three aces. McTaggart's big performance helped key a Knights' comeback after they fell behind 2-1.
"We struggled a bit tonight - our passing and serving were not as good as usual, but the team stayed mentally tough and fought hard for the comeback and the win," North Penn coach Jynell Brunt said.
Also for the Knights, setter Charlotte Patterson handed out 50 assists and also had three aces, five kills and 15 digs. Leila Eid led the defense with 28 digs, and Kathryn Hanley had 16 kills in a standout supporting role.
The Ghosts were without one of their top net players – Kenya Lucas – but hung tough in Monday’s non-league match.
“We lost a tough battle – we ran out of gas,” Abington coach Dan Marsh said. “Our team played hard without Kenya Lucas, who is out all week for personal reasons. The whole team stepped up in her absence but fell a little bit short.”
Lila Stonehouse’s 16 kills led the Ghosts. Emilee Zuccato and Shasha Moody, a freshman who filled in for Lucas, both contributed nine kills. Setter Izzy Reilly was credited with 35 assists.
Abington is 7-3 overall (4-1 SOL) while North Penn is 7-3 (5-1).
PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1
In a non-league battle with a tough Viking squad, Alexis Barklage and Rachel Hu both had big nights at the net for the Bucks, contributing 18 and 12 kills respectively. Barklage also had a pair of aces while Hu had five aces and seven digs. Mackenzie Lund contributed four kills, two aces and one block. Setter Alexa Lee was credited with 31 assists, 13 digs, three blocks and two aces. Caroline Taylor led the defense with 19 digs, one ace, one kill and five assists. Lily Rasnake chipped in with three kills and one block.
Central Bucks West is 5-8 overall, 3-2 SOL.
GWYNEDD MERCY ACADEMY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1
The Golden Hawks came up short on the scoreboard, but they had plenty of big performances. Edan Kauer and Avery Vaughan both had 15 kills to lead the Hawks’ attack. Kauer also had several digs while Vaughan had four blocks. Lili Lauch (22 assists, two aces, nine digs) and Gina Caraccio (18 assists, two kills) shared the setting duties. Sophiea Ranieri contributed five blocks and four kills while Mattie Melekos had four kills and three blocks.
Lindsey Korn, Alexis Green and Cadence Palmer contributed strong defense.
Council Rock South is 9-2 overall, 6-1 SOL.
SOUTHERN LEHIGH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20)
Millie Grove had a monster night for the Titans, contributing 34 kills and 17 digs, but it wasn’t enough to earn the non-league win over the Spartans.
Senior setter Shannon Rector handed out 40 assists and also had four aces and eight digs. Senior libero Rian Grant had 18 digs and one kill while senior defensive specialist Morgan Schaefer contributed 11 digs and one ace. Junior outside Breckyn Loynd added six kills and 12 digs.
Also contributing were junior middle Katie Canznaese (two aces, one kill, one block), senior middle Erin Mangan (three kills), senior opposite Olivia Dallmer (one kill) and sophomore middle Jillian Jeffreys (one block, one kill).
Central Bucks South is 7-6 overall, 4-3 SOL.
PENNRIDGE 3, DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 0
The Lady Rams returned to the win column with a straight set victory at Christopher Dock on Monday night. The Lady Rams controlled the match with tough serving, lead by Freshmen Outside Hitters Caitlyn Kuntz with 4 aces and 2 kills and Melissa Hinkson (5 aces and 2 kills). Junior Setter Paige Lipp chipped in with a big game defensively, notching 6 digs in the victory. The Rams return to action Wednesday against Pennsbury and look to turn a corner heading into the stretch run of the season.
QUAKERTOWN 3, WISSAHICKON 2 (12-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12)
