SOL National
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, PENNSBURY 1 (25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 26-24)
The Panthers won for the fifth time in six matches, and this was a big one for the Panthers.
“It was an extremely well-played and fun match by both sides,” Tennent coach Brian Bassler said. “So many points could have gone either way.”
Addy Criss, sophomore libero, had 37 digs, and senior Maggie McGlynn had nine digs and two aces led the back row.
“Maggie is dealing with a hand injury but she just doesn’t want to come out,” Bassler said. “None of the girls do, they are amazing. They all cheer and pull for one another.”
Senior Meredith Johnston had 13 kills and Georgie Thorpe had six kills including two huge ones in set four. Freshman Izzy Goebel (19 assists) and Senior Julia Richard (9 assists) spread the ball around and played great defense.
“So many girls played big roles that don’t turn up in the statistics,” Bassler said. “I’m so proud of all of them. It was a good win against a good and well-coached team.
“We have a freshman setter, sophomore libero and seniors that have been great and shown even greater leadership. I can’t say enough about how much this team has grown together. They are fun.”
William Tennnent upped its record to 7-4 in conference play (12-7 overall), and Pennsbury is 6-4 in league play (7-6 overall).
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-23)
The Indians got everyone involved in their 16th straight win, a sweep of the Owls.
Senior captain Ashleigh Adams led the Indians with 11 kills, six digs and three aces, and junior opposite/outside Ashley Smith added six kills and four digs. Junior opposite Sophia Lentz contributed five kills, three digs, three aces, three blocks, two assists. Adding three kills were senior middle Bella Slough and senior outside Julia Murphy. Senior setter Kate Logan had 19 assists, three digs and three aces. Junior outside Ainsley Jordan had two kills, five digs and one ace. Senior setter Becca Wintjen had one kill, three digs, eight assists and two aces while senior defensive specialist Arushi Singh had four digs, three assists and two aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Kaitlyn Lidel had two kills, three digs and one ace. Sophomore libero Emma McNulty added one dig and one ace, and sophomore opposite Elizabeth Butler had two blocks and one kill.
Council Rock North (16-0 overall) is 10-0 and atop the conference standings. Bensalem is 1-11 overall (1-9 SOL).
SOL Continental
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 (24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 15-25, 15-12)
In Thursday's Pink Out game pitting the neighboring rivals, the Patriots edged the Bucks in a tightly contested five-set match.
For the Patriots, setter Katie Monaghan distributed 29 assists and also had six digs, two aces and two kills. Contributing at the net were hitters Stephanie Bahner (one ace, seven kills, three digs), Mia Mettille (five aces, four kills, eight digs), Maddy Ware (two aces, 10 kills, six blocks, eight digs), Samantha Sharp (three aces, three kills, two blocks four digs), Kat Montabana (one ace, three kills, three digs), Emily Curran (two kills) and Brooke Bishop (two blocks). Kate Malobisky had one dig and Chloe Mettille had three digs and one ace.
West was led at the net by Alexis Barklage (eight kills, three aces, five blocks), Lily Rasnake (seven kills, five aces, two blocks), Mackenzie Lund (four kills, four aces, five blocks), Alexa Lee (three kills, six aces, one block, five assists) and Hollis Walton (three kills, one block). Setter Erin Erello had 15 assists, five digs and one ace.
Central Bucks East improved to 10-5 overall (8-2 SOL) while CB West is 5-12 overall (3-6 SOL).
NORTH PENN 3, SOUDERTON 2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-15, 15-9)
The Knights dropped the opening two sets but came back strong, rallying to win the next three for the gutsy win.
Senior captain Charlotte Patterson led the team with seven aces and 37 assists, and senior Kate Hanley had 11 kills. Junior captain Kiley McTaggart had 20 kills, and sophomore libero Leila Eid had 26 digs. Senior defensive specialist Olivia Quallet contributed 14 digs and two aces.
For the Indians, Alex Mazzeo’s 14 digs led the defense. She also had an ace and a kill. Alli Sauerwalk had seven kills, five digs and one ace, Teya McConaha added four kills, three aces, three digs and one block, and Lauren Vince had three kills, three digs and one block. Setter Nikki Hamilton handed out 22 assists and also had 10 digs and one ace.
North Penn (11-4, 8-3 SOL) will celebrate 'Senior Knight' in Friday's non-league match against Dock Mennonite Academy. Souderton is 9-6 overall (6-4 SOL).
SOL American Conference
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-6, 25-3, 25-14)
The Hatters upped their record to 13-2 with a sweep of the Lady Panthers.
The offense was led by junior setter Julie Reilly with 11 assists and five aces. Junior Kayla Jones had seven kills and 12 aces. Emma O’Reilly also added seven aces on the line.
Hatboro-Horsham (13-2, 8-1 SOL) will host Upper Dublin on Monday. Cheltenham fell to 0-7 in the SOL.
Non-league
ABINGTON 3, VILLA JOSEPH MARIE 1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-12, 25-20)
The Ghosts knocked off a highly regarded Jems’ squad that brought a 16-2 record into Thursday’s non-league game and is seeded second in the District One 2A power rankings.
“It was a great match - we played great volleyball,” coach Dan Marsh said.
Kenya Lucas and Lila Stonebrook were dominant at the net, finishing with 21 and 17 kills respectively. Setter Izzy Reilly handed out 36 assists.
Abington (7-2 SOL) upped its record to 10-5 overall.
Wednesday, Oct. 13
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, BOYERTOWN 1 (27-25, 26-28, 25-20, 25-20)
The Hatters earned a huge win while visiting an extremely tough and talented Boyertown squad that entered the match ranked third in the District One 4A power rankings. The Hatters offense was coordinated by senior setter Grace Howard with 53 assists, eight digs, and four aces. Junior outside hitter Kayla Jones led the offense with 18 kills followed by Nastya Tsetsko with 17, Jade Lauzier with 11 and Isabelle Bombas with nine. The Hatters had a spectacular night on the service line with 16 aces, including five from Kayla Jones, four from Grace Howard, three from Maci Lumpkin, two from Jade Lauzier, and one each from Abigail Kostmalski and Ava Santo. Maci Lumpkin led the serve receive with 49 passing attempts.
The Hatters are seeded eighth in the latest District One 4A power rankings.
