Tonight we started a little slow and Conestoga were able to take an early lead through a free kick. We settled down and were starting to play well when we were called for a handball in the box. They scored and at half time it was 2-0. Even then we had confidence we could get back in the game, but unfortunately we couldn't convert the opportunities we had.
Our effort tonight was superb, there are a number of girls that are playing on fumes, both physically and mentally. On Tuesday we were unfortunate and lost both Varsity goalkeepers to concussions. Molly Sheehy stepped up from JV and played incredibly well in her first Varsity minutes to keep a clean sheet against Spring-Ford and then tonight she did a really good job throughout the game dealing with shots and crosses. She was great.
This is our 5th year as a staff, and with the SOL schedule changes this has been, by far, our toughest season. The group of seniors we have this year will be missed in many ways, it is very easy to judge their play on the field and the impact they have had, we will miss them on a personal level in that they have helped us push the program forward, their ability to connect with all the girls, their effort and standards of fitness and commitment have been excellent. Most importantly they have been truly selfless in their desire to succeed. Almost all of our adjustments have affected them, and they have never complained about their position , role or status on team. We managed to win a share of the Patriot division of the SOL this year, this is our first league title, and one that they truly deserve. We are sad to lose them, but we hope that our underclassmen have learnt from them along the way.
