Taylor Hinkle – Holy Family University (Basketball)
Major: Health Sciences
Final list of colleges: Holy Family, Jefferson, Chestnut Hill
Reasons for choosing Holy Family: “The minute I walked on campus and I saw everything, I knew it was home. They just had everything I want academic-wise and athletic-wise. I’m just really excited for the next four years.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “I started playing basketball in second grade. I used to play softball too, but ultimately, once ninth grade hit, I had to make a decision if I wanted to keep playing softball. I stopped playing softball in middle school though, so I kind of narrowed it down quite early. I was like - basketball is my sport, it’s my passion. I just love it, and it comes easy to me.”
Coach Beth Mattern says: “Taylor has been a key player since day one. She was part of one of the first groups that came through that as a freshman, had pressure to contribute right away, and she’s never disappointed. The best part about her is every year she’s gotten better, and her game has grown. I think we’ll see that same thing this season that her game is still growing, and she continually works to improve on the court.
“Taylor is a natural leader. She’s quiet, but her work ethic is top notch. She’s always giving someone a fist bump, telling them ‘You got this,’ or answering a question. She’s not loud about it. It’s just a great way of always encouraging her teammates and helping them when needed. Taylor can do a lot of things on the court. I think some of it is her size – she has a great basketball frame, and that pays off for her. She’s very athletic. She can move, she can rebound, she can shoot. She’s spent the time trying to develop the different aspects of the game, and that has paid off.”
