Pennsbury Gives Back to Community

With the 2021-2022 Swim & Dive season underway, Pennsbury takes pause to reach out to those in the community to wish them Happy Holidays. As part of its largest fundraiser of the year, the Pennsbury Swim & Dive team uses the poinsettia plants donated back to the team and distributes them to the police departments within the district including Lower Makefield Township, Yardley Borough and Falls Township. Additionally, the team’s captains brought joy with a number of plants to the Arden Courts Assisted Living Facility located in LMT.

Senior Captain Jacob Cohen shares his thoughts, “It’s important to show gratitude towards everyone in the community. What’s most important is kindness and gratefulness.”

The annual poinsettia plant fundraiser helps the team offset the costs of their end-of-season banquet. People may donate plants back to the team. These plants are then shared with the community, illustrating a great example of community outreach and engagement. Team captains get the opportunity to engage with the community, strengthening their leadership skills and become role models to their younger teammates.

Senior Captain Maggie Sweitzer reflects on the event, “Setting an example as captain, I hope I inspire younger teammates to become the best versions of themselves. Talking time to appreciate those people in the community and just say thank you goes such a long way.”

The team prides itself on their continued community service activities and support of activities throughout the SOL. This year marks the third annual “Throw in the Towel” drive, collecting towels, blankets and other supplies for animal shelters serving the community. Volunteer activities extend beyond the district’s boundaries as the team continues to have strong representation at SOPA (Special Olympics of PA swim practices held at CB East) and regularly participates CR South Clothing Drive held in January.
