HATBORO-HORSHAM DOWNS PLYMOUTH WHITMARSH ON SENIOR NIGHT

HORSHAM, PA-The Hatboro-Horsham Wrestling Warriors were at full strength in their home gym on Senior Night and pinned down the Plymouth-Whitemarsh Colonials 39-31. H-H recorded four falls and collected two forfeits as they improved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the SOL Liberty Division. H-H won five of the ten contested bouts, as H-H forfeited to P-W’s Jake Williams at 120-pounds, securing big bonus points in four of those matches for the win.
After receiving forfeits at 215-pounds (match started here) and 285, H-H’s 106-pounder Ryan Allgeier made quick work of the Colonials’ Younguk Han with a headlock at the whistle and finished with a tight cradle in 40-seconds of the first period to put the Warriors up 18-0 on the scoreboard. P-W’s Ashton Wittenberg closed the gap on H-H 18-16 at 126lbs. with a 12-0 major decision over H-H’s Orion Newell after a pin by Colin Wagner (P-W) at 113, and a forfeit at 120.
H-H sophomore standout Chris Staub (15-2 with 12 falls) took care of business at 132-pounds with a first-period fall over Joe Bussell with a tight half-nelson, getting the Warriors back on track, 24-16, and they never looked back. Russell Lilly followed with a solid 8-2 decision over Mohammed Charabi (P-W), using a tight headlock, pushing the lead to 27-16. Joe Martini, III, then made it three in a row with nasty cement-job, finishing the fall, with double boots in just 49-seconds.
The Colonials countered with two pins of their own at 152 and 160, as both Ty Borkowski & Justin Bainbridge recorded first period falls respectfully, pulling the Colonials within five points 33-22 with two bouts remaining, making the possibility of a comeback reality. But H-H 172-pounder Brady Pagano put an end to the Colonials hopes, securing a timely fall in the second-period with a whip-headlock on Matt Tadeo nailing down the team win for the Warriors. In what could have been for all the marbles in the match at 189-pounds, Matt Sadel (P-W) downed Hunter Long (H-H) 8-4 in a battle of two solid grapplers to finish the team scoring 39-31 and a big win for Hatboro-Horsham. The H-H win may not be enough to get them into next week’s first round of the District One Team Championships at 4-4, but it certainly hurts P-W’s (7-6) chances if they were to enter the duals. Seeding comes out over the weekend. Stay tuned to see where Quakertown (5-0) and Council Rock South (5-1) end up, possibly #1 and #2, and look for Pennridge (7-3), with their big win over Souderton (5-6) 39-28 to move up into one of the top eight seeds. Pennsbury (8-4) will also be up in the top eight most likely, as Boyertown lost to Perk Valley 33-30 last night. Both CB East (6-3) and Souderton could make the field (if entered). But Souderton’s loss to the ‘Ridge hurts, as does the Patriots’ loss to North Penn (6-7) 36-21. So somewhat of a shake-up in one evening of wrestling in the SOL…
