On Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, Central Bucks West senior Emily Spratt was recognized for committing to continue her basketball career at Jefferson University.
Emily Spratt – Jefferson University (Basketball)
Major: Health Sciences
Final list of colleges: Jefferson, Binghamton, Colgate, Lehigh
Reasons for choosing Jefferson: “I really liked how it was close to home. My sister, my brother and my dad all coach at Chestnut Hill, so I’ve always been around there. It just had a family feel.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “Ever since I was little, I always had the goal to play basketball in college no matter what division it was, so that’s always been in the back of my mind. I think it was a good goal to strive for to get me through middle school and high school.”
Coach Zach Sibel says: “I think Jefferson is a great choice. When I talked to Emily about recruiting and that type of thing, she was very clear that she knew the person she was. She’s a family person. The Spratt family is super tight. They’re a local crew, and I think that was really important to her. In the world that we live in today and what we see on social media with recruiting and self-promotion – that was never the kind of kid she was. She hated the fact that she had a Twitter account, she hated those type of things, and I think that spoke a lot to her character.
“Emily’s got athleticism and a physicality to her. I think you see the athleticism from college guards and you see the physicality from college forwards, but you’re getting both at the guard position, which makes her super unique. In football, they used to call that the athlete position when you can do a little bit of everything. With her growing her outside game, it makes Emily a really unique player and really dangerous. As she continues to grow that outside shot, they’re not going to be able to cover her because you have to give her a step because she’s so athletic. She can post, and you have to respect her three, and that puts defenses in a bind. Now you have to cover everybody differently, and that versatility puts her in an elite level at the D-2 level.
“I think Jefferson is a great fit. She’s going to be playing for a great coach, she’s going to have a great career, and with the improvement to her game and the versatility that she’s growing and she’s still continuing to grow, which is exciting – I think Jefferson has got an absolute steal. They’re going to have an awesome player that’s going to do a lot of amazing things for them.”
