Both Council Rock South and Quakertown suffered first round losses in the 2022 PIAA (3A) Team Championships 16-team bracket in Hershey Thursday night.  The losses dropped them down into consolation bracket of the championships which were wrestled on Friday.  CR South sat atop the top-half of the bracket as the District One champ and squared off against District Three’s #3 team Greater Latrobe.  The Golden Hawks came up short in the 28-23 loss.  Greater Latrobe won five out the first six contested bouts, starting at 215-pounds and building a 19-3 lead.  Ben Brillhart started a run of five straight victories for the Golden Hawks at 132-pounds with an 8-0 major decision over Jacob Braun (GL).  The run ended with Bek Sadriddinov’s impressive 1-0 victory over an outstanding Jack Pletcher from Greater Latrobe knotting the team score at 19-19.

After a Greater Latrobe pin at 160-pounds, South’s Matt Colajezzi posted a 9-1 major decision on Sam Snyder, setting up the potential for a comeback win 25-23.  However, Tom Woloshyn could not repeat his D1 dual finals heroics, as he was downed by Greater Latrobe’s Tyler Lynch 10-4 making the final score 28-23.  In the consolation bracket, South pounded General McLane (D10’s #1) 44-16.  The Golden Hawks dominated the dual winning 10 of 13 bouts in impressive fashion, securing bonus points in seven of 10 bouts.  Luke Reitter started off the match at 113-pounds, downing GM’s Ethan Snyder with a 10-2 major decision.  Pins were secured by Ajay Batt (120), Anthony Cerulli (160) and Lucas Doyle (215) during the blow-out win.  Connor Lenahan closed out the match with a 4-2 decision over Teige Berger, making the final score 44-16.

With the General McLane win, Golden Hawk Head Coach Brad Silimperi picked up his 300th dual meet victory, as South advanced to face Williamsport, who dropped down with a quarterfinal loss to Lehigh Valley power Nazareth 45-15.  Siilmperi, a former Nazareth state champion, has been the lead man at CR South since the school opened in 2002.  South came up short in an outstanding dual against Williamsport 32-28.  Shermuhammad Sadrddinov dropped a 1-0 decision to Riley Bower at 145-pounds, pushing Williamsport ahead 8-7.  The loss was two-straight at the hands of the Bower brothers, as Gavin Cole lost by tech fall to Braden Bower at 138.

Despite wins by Bek Sadriddinov (152), Matt Colajezzi (160), Lucas Doyle (215) & Connor Lenahan (106) putting South in the lead 28-24, it was not enough to hold off Williamsport.  Colajezzi, Doyle and Lenahan all won by fall.  The 32-28 loss eliminated South from the tournament.

District One runner-up Quakertown suffered the same fate with their tight 31-27 loss in the prelims to Mifflin County (D6’s #1).  Quakertown was solid thru-out the dual, winning the majority of the 13 contested bouts.  However, bonus points were the difference, especially a devasting pin at 189-pounds as Mifflin’s Trey Shoemaker decked Kaden Roesener for the team victory after the Panthers were leading 27-25 heading to this final match.

With the loss, Quakertown dropped to the consis to battle D3’s Dallastown.  Quakertown rolled over Dallastown with nine wins in the dual meet, five by fall.  Connellsville dropped down from the championship bracket after losing to Bethlehem Catholic 50-8.  Bethlehem Catholic, the #1 seed from D11, will have a rematch with Nazareth in the state team final.  BECCA won 32-22 for D11 title.  Connellsville was too much for the Panthers, as they sent Q-town home with a 37-21 loss.  Both CRS and Q-town will be in prime position to battle for Section and Regional titles in the individual postseason starting Feb. 26 at Quakertown in the District One East Individual Championships.
