Abington 3, Bensalem 0
Xavier Voit finished with 9 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs, and 2 aces as Abington opened its season by using multiple attack options and aggressive serving to win in straight sets over Bensalem on Friday.
Zach Miller picked up 8 kills, 10 digs, and 2 blocks. Myles Winegrad added 6 kills, 11 digs, and 1 ace. Ben Holler chipped in with 6 kills, 18 digs, and 1 ace. Jake Kosik racked up 29 digs throughout the three sets to bolster the defense.
Middles Shiv Parekh (5 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks) and Bruce Bell (5 kills) played well for the Owls. Jeremy Rodriguez (7 kills), Jack Wineburg (6 kills), and Parth Patel (5 kills) also made plays at the net. Kush Patel added 2 aces for Bensalem. Ricky Patel (11 assists) and Ohm Patel (10 assists) ran the offense and Arjun Patel (10 digs) and Rohan Patel (5 digs) made plays in the back.
Abington (1-0, 1-0) will play its home-opener on Monday against Upper Dublin. Bensalem (0-1, 0-1) returns to action on Tuesday at 3:45 pm against Council Rock South.
Council Rock North 3, Pennsbury 1
Nate Sadley recorded 16 kills and Jon Nixon dished out 33 assists, but Pennsbury dropped a 3-1 decision to Council Rock North in Friday’s season-opener for both teams.
Sadley added 4 digs and 1 block, while Nixon had 5 kills, 1 ace, 8 digs, and 1 block. The Falcons also saw Nathan Knapp (8 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 3 dig, 1 block), Ryan Mateo (7 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs), Brady Burgfechtel (1 kill, 7 assists, 2 aces, 18 digs), Brian Drewes (5 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs), and Evan Brown (5 kills, .286) contribute to the effort.
For the Indians, setter Dylan VanSchaick had 36 assists and one kill. Brady Klein and Luke Sill led a balanced attack with 10 kills each. Klein also had two aces and one block. Nick Alleborn contributed nine kills and two blocks while Anthony DePalo had eight kills and one block.
The Indians (1-0, 1-0) are back in action at 5 pm Tuesday with a matchup against Cheltenham. Pennsbury (0-1, 0-1) will visit Abington on Wednesday.

American Conference
Central Bucks East 3, Central Bucks South 2
In a season-opening matchup of local rivals, Central Bucks East and Central Bucks South traded off the first four games, but an unfortunate injury and solid Patriot play proved to be the difference as East took the final set for a 3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 12-25, 25-18, 9-15) on Friday.
“We came out in set 1 and played very well,” said South coach Matt Ehlers. “Unfortunately right at the end of the set we lost senior Sam Stolber with a foot injury. We struggled a bit after that before finding the right lineup and getting back into the match in set 4. I was extremely proud of the way the team handled themselves and continued to work through some adversity early in the match. We'll be hoping for a quick recovery for Sam.”
East was led by AJ Helveston (11 kills, 9 digs, 1 block), Josh Lyzinski (9 kills, 5 blocks, and an ace), Pat Haurin (5 kills, 1 block), and Reid Miller (4 kills, 11 digs, 4 aces). Directing the offense were Matt LaBouliere with 20 assists, eight kills, and 13 digs, along with Ryan Coxey with 16 assists, two digs, and four aces. Defensively, Steve DiRugeris led the way with 17 digs and an assist.
For the Titans, setter Josh Conley had 14 assists, 1 kill, and 7 digs for the Titans. Senior Chris Kline led the offense with 6 kills, 4 aces, and 2 blocks. Sophomore Libero Will Tantum led the defense with 8 digs. Senior Dylan Hillegass made his first varsity start and recorded 3 kills, 2 blocks, and 6 digs.
The Patriots (1-0, 1-0) will look to build on the season-opening victory when they visit Neshaminy for a 3:30 pm Monday game. The Titans (0-1, 0-1) will host Pennridge Tuesday at 6:45 pm.
Upper Dublin 3, Central Bucks West 0
Upper Dublin improved to 2-0 on the young season with a solid straight-sets victory (25-13, 25-23, 25-20) over Central Bucks West on Friday.
Terrell Turner notched 11 kills in the win, while Benjamin Dorsey had 9 kills, 1 assist, and 3 digs. David Levin contributed 3 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs, and 1 block to go along with his 16 assists.
The Cardinals also received strong efforts from Ari Weiner (2 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs), Dominick Plaku (1 assist, 4 digs), and Landon Kullmann (5 kills, 2 aces, 2 assists, 2 digs).
For the Bucks, Terrell Turner led the way at the net with 11 kills. Benjamin Dorey added nine kills, one assist and three digs, and Landon Kullmann contributed five kills, two aces, two assists and two digs. Setter David Levin had a strong all-around game, handing out 16 assists to go along with six digs, three kills, two aces and one block. Ari Weiner had two kills, two aces and two digs, and Dominick Plaku finished with four digs and one assist.
The Cardinals (1-0, 1-0) will visit Abington at 4:30 pm Monday, while the Bucks (0-1, 0-1) will host North Penn on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
Souderton 3, North Penn 1
Nate Brown racked up 10 kills and 8 aces, while Andrew Brown contributed 12 kills, 4 aces, and 4 blocks as Souderton won the first two games en route to a 3-1 win (25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14) over host North Penn in Friday’s season opener for both teams.
“This was a good win over a solid North Penn team,” said Souderton volleyball coach Luke Pinto. “We came together as a team and figured out a way to win and grow together.”
Souderton (1-0, 1-0) visits Central Bucks East at 6:30 pm Tuesday, while the Knights (0-1, 0-1) will visit Central Bucks West at 6:30 pm Tuesday.
