On Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, Central Bucks West senior Hannah Maughan was recognized for committing to continue her field hockey career at Kean University.
Hannah Maughan – Kean University (Field Hockey)
Major: Biomedicine
Final list of colleges: Kean, Eastern University, Penn State
Reasons for choosing Kean: “I was considering Eastern University and – if I didn’t play a sport - maybe Penn State, but Kean’s coach was super sweet. She just made me feel I was already on the team and I was part of the university. It also had the size I wanted – a good mid-sized student body.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I was very back and forth about playing. I started thinking I would play in college my sophomore year. I tried to push myself to play, but part of me didn’t want to and part of me did. Then Senior Night hit for field hockey, and I just decided I couldn’t leave the team. I didn’t want to give up the sport I had spent so many years playing.”
Coach David DeAngelis says: “Hannah was one of our captains this year, and she really brought a level of leadership but also she brought a level of calmness just based on her personality. She basically anchored our defensive line throughout the season.
“She had a willingness to learn and an unending desire to keep working – it’s her work ethic. She would lead through her voice but also through her actions.”
