UM won 11-0 today behind 5 one-hit innings from Jimmy Torpey. Torpey had 8 k’s and 2 walks in a vintage performance from the southpaw. He got ahead early and mixed pitches effectively.

The offense was paced by Jared McCellan’s 2 hits including a double, Shawn Townsend’s 2 hits and 3 RBIs, and Patrick Kilgus’s 3 run home run. Kilgus is a freshman playing varsity and showing he belongs. McCellan also had 2 RBIs and so did Jaryd Meehl on the strength of a double.

Jim Fasano’s quotes:

I’m happy for the boys, we played great today and will need to continue playing this way if we want to compete for a division title.

Kilgus’s home run would have been out of any park in America, a no-doubt bomb.

Torpey was terrific and is a great kid, he deserves every success he achieves.
