ABINGTON FIELD HOCKEY PREVIEW

Coach: Katie Small 5 years (12 years total), Jamie Fiztgerald-Westphal 2 years (assistant prior 7 yrs)

Assistant coaches:  Jane Meserole, Janine Larr

Last year’s record:  Overall 5-5-1 in a reduced game schedule year 

Notable losses:  Aly Campbell (Washington College)

Key returners:  Camryn Stewart – 11^th/Midfield, Marilynn Capps – 12^th/goalie, Devan DiMaria 12^th/defense, Olivia Doughtery 10^th/forward

Others to watch: Tara Hughes 12^th/Defense, Maddie Slavin 11^th/defense

Strengths/Question Marks: “We have a strong backfield with Capps taking on the goalie duties for the third year.  We are still looking to see who is going to step up on the offensive side to put us on the board early and often.”

Outlook: “Coming into camp, the girls were excited to get back on the field.  Abington has some holes to fill with a large graduating senior class from 2020.  We are going to rely on our captains DiMaria, Hughes and Capps, all of which are going to anchor the backfield this year.  In the middle of the field, underclassmen Stewart and Doughtery will be asked to step up quite a bit.  We are looking forward to some strong competition this year in the American Conference as well as getting to see some teams outside the conference we missed playing last year.”
