ABINGTON GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW
Coach: Rick Tompkins (2nd year)
Assistant coaches: Jason Weidner, Abbey Sarault, Andrew Hudson, Rich Greene
Last year’s record: 4-9-1 SOL, 8-9-1 overall
Notable losses: Leading scorer Sheila Longo (Pitt), All four starting defenders: Chelsea Dyjak, Allie Naughton, Brigitta Good and Rebecca McCaffrey, Midfielder Mallory Mugnier and goalkeepers Jess Schmidt and Megan Williams
Key returners: Forwards: Cindy Wade (Sr.) and Julie Gallagher (Sr.), Midfielders Kayla Nolan (Jr.), Emily Willard (Sr.) and Gabby Nyirjesy (Sr.), Defenders Colleen Brown (Sr.) and Molly Wyman (Jr.)
Others to watch: Freshman midfielders Mary Gene Mugnier and Gabby Nolan
Strengths: Senior leadership from captains Gabby Nyirjesy and Cindy Wade.
Question marks: Entirely new backfield and goaltender
Outlook: “The Ghosts are retooling and will be as good as their defense and Allie Dobson (goalkeeper). The goal is to play competitively with the big four (Rock North, Rock South, Pennsbury and Neshaminy) in the league. Nyirjesy, Wade, Willard and Gallagher are solid returning players, and the Ghosts need to have their newcomers mesh with them in order to be successful.”
