On Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, CB West seniors Jenna Abaza & Erin Stranix were recognized for committing to continue their soccer career at the collegiate level.
Jenna Abaza – Goucher College (Soccer)
Major: Business Management with a minor in Secondary Education
Final list of colleges: Goucher, Susquehanna, York
Reasons for choosing Goucher: “I liked the location, they’re really diverse, and they have a lot to offer for what I want to do. They link with Johns Hopkins University, so I’ll be getting my master’s in marketing for my fifth year there. They have a lot of internship opportunities after that.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “Goucher was the first college that actually reached out to me in eighth grade, and I kept in contact with them. I emailed them my schedule every tournament, and they came every single time. They were super dedicated to me, so I noticed that, and then I verbally committed last year to them.”
Coach Mike Moyer says: “Jenna was a four-year starter and a three-year captain. She actually got nominated as a captain as a sophomore. Other than being hurt or sick, she started every single game in goal. She is built like a goalie – she has long arms, she’s very smart, she has great hands, she can anticipate things, and her reflexes are just so quick. If someone scores on us, it’s normally a good goal. I know she let up a couple when she was younger, but we could always count on her to have a good game in goal. It’s going to be weird next year that I have to move on from her. I never had to figure out who my goalie was going to be because I knew we had Jenna. She’s been a great role model for all the girls. The girls really look up to her, and she is definitely going to be missed.”

Erin Stranix – Mansfield University (Soccer)
Major: Communications
Final list of colleges: Mansfield, all the PSAC schools
Reasons for choosing Mansfield: “I liked Mansfield specifically because of the small school environment, and it was a really pretty campus, the coach was awesome – he’s super nice and really into the program and invested in it.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I love the game, and I always knew I wanted to play as long as I could. Once I found out I could play in college, I said, ‘Absolutely, I definitely want to do that.’”
Coach Mike Moyer says: “Erin was a two-year varsity player. She is so good in the air. She played in the middle of the park, and her job was to be the enforcer. She was good in the air, she was good at tackling, she was good at playing balls in, and she was great on set pieces. Having that big body on the field, especially in our league, was really important to us. We’re going to miss that next year.”
