Central Bucks East Softball Preview

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Erin Scott (5th year)

Assistant coaches:  John Hasson, Karl Knapp, Dave Schulman

Last year’s record:  Overall 12-11, 7-7 (league).  We had a rocky start to our season last year, mainly due to an injury to a key player, but we  finished on a high note, beating Neshaminy in the second round of playoffs and then losing a one-run game to district champs North Penn in the third round.

Notable losses:  Sarah Decker, Kaylynn Johnson

Key returners:
Julia Schoenewald (senior/catcher)
Sierra Huckfeldt (senior/1B)
Caroline Schoenewald (junior/2B)
Jess Haug (senior/SS)
Kerry Schulz (senior/OF)
Allie Chase (senior/OF)
Jayme Ziegler (senior/P)

Others to watch:
Carla Ruscio (senior/OF)
Danielle Marzetti (junior/3B)
We have four freshmen (Tillotson, Posner, Ventura, T. Haug) who have joined our squad this season who have the potential to contribute to our season and to the program over the next four years.   These four players in addition to senior Alison Clites make up the strongest bench we have had in many years.

Strengths/Question Marks:  We have a strong senior class this year with a lot of experience on the field.  Jayme Ziegler will lead our pitching staff with valuable experience in pressure situations.  We have two freshman pitchers who we are hoping will be able to step in and support Jayme.  Offensively we have a lot of potential/power but we will need to consistently produce and not leave runners in scoring position.

Outlook:  “Our goal is to start the season on a higher note and to maintain consistency and confidence throughout the season.   We have high expectations for the season but will need to stay focused, continue to work hard and not lose sight of our goals.  Our conference continues to be strong and we will have a lot of strong teams to face.”
