Cheltenham Girls' Soccer Previews

CHELTENHAM GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW

Coach:  Mark Woodcock 5th year

Assistant coaches: Steve Midzak, Melanie Wilbur (JV)

Last year’s record:  Finished 4th in the league with a record of 7-9-2 (6-5-1 in league)

Notable losses:  Allison Craig, Rhoda Moise

Key returners:  Marissa Gorman (M), Tess Kind, Jackie Krevitz (D), Jaymee Stepp (GK)

Others to watch: Emily Leibowitz (F), Sarah Keeny (F), Sloane and Alix Macklin (M)

Strengths: Experience in key positions, overall team speed.

Question marks: Unproven goal scorers as well as physical stamina and strength are potential question marks.

Outlook:  “After finishing fourth in the league and with a sub .500 record, Cheltenham is looking to reestablish itself as a playoff contender.  Senior goalkeeper Jaymee Stepp provides experience between the posts, and senior co-captain Tess Kind and Jackie Krevitz provide a solid central defensive pairing.  Our midfield generally needs to provide more both offensively and defensively but certainly has the potential to be a strength of the team led by senior co-captain Marissa Gorman.  Up front we are looking for new sources for goals, and we will be counting on help from a strong freshman class to provide that.  Our goal for the season is to try to improve our record in order to make ourselves part of the playoff conversation, and in order for that to happen, we will have to mature very quickly into an offensive force in order to compete with the best teams in our league.”
