COUNCIL ROCK NORTH SEASON REVIEW – 2013-2014
The 2013 – 14 basketball team saw its share of high and lows throughout the season. When all was said and done, the ’13-’14 team will be remembered for its competitiveness, defensive execution, and togetherness. As a result, Council Rock North found itself once again near the top of the Suburban One National Conference standings.
With another challenging early season schedule and some inexperience in the starting lineup, the Indians saw an opportunity to test themselves in the early season. CR North finished the first part of their schedule at a highly respectable 3-3. Highlights of that stretch included games against state ranked teams Math, Civics, & Sciences and Abington, as well as wins against local private schools Holy Ghost Prep and Phil Mont Christian.
The low point of the season hit in early January when the Indians lost to Bensalem, 39-30, fell to 3-6, and were searching for an identify. However, CR North responded with an unforgettable stretch of winning six out of their next seven games. Terrific team defense and timely shooting led them to wins over Neshaminy, Glen Mills, CR South, Tennent, and North Penn. The Tennent game was won on a three point buzzer beater by junior Drew Glenn.
As a result of a great January, the Indians were in a position to earn a sixth straight District One playoff appearance. However a heartbreaking loss to CR South, their first against their district rival since 2008, (52-48) put the Indians just outside the field of thirty two and the District One Playoffs. CR North’s season ended with a respectable 11-11 record, 8-6 in the competitive S.O.L. National Conference.
