Council Rock North Softball Preview

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Hollie Woodard (7 years)

Assistant coaches:  Jessica Weckenman and Meghan Sinback

Last year’s record:  SOL 11-3 with a third place finish; Overall: 12-5, received District One 11th seed bid

Notable losses:
Pitcher Morgan Lewis is playing at Susquehanna
Shortstop Caytlin Friis is playing at Binghamton University

Key returners:
Alyssa Goldberg (sr) outfield
Michelle Hand (sr) infield
Melissa Lichter (sr) infield
Dominique Pinto (jr) catcher
Bailey Bigler (soph) outfield

Others to watch:
Hannah Mumber (soph) right handed pitcher
Tatum Kelly (soph) infield
Marissa Gergel (fresh) infield

Strengths:  Led by the dominating hitting of Dom Pinto, Michelle Hand, and Alyssa Goldberg, Council Rock North will be a strong offensive force that is able to generate runs.  However, much will depend upon newcomer sophomore pitcher Hannah Mumber’s ability to compete on the mound.

Outlook:  As a team, we would like to improve our overall league record, earn a third straight District One bid, and play beyond the first round of districts.  However, our path will be challenging as the Suburban One League is by far the strongest it has ever been.  Six of our games are against teams that finished high in the state tournament last season (one game against state champion Hatboro, two games against state runner-up Pennsbury, two games against third place Neshaminy, and one game against eighth place Souderton).  We are aware that in order to achieve our goals, we will have to defeat the most talented teams in the state.  Fortunately, North is armed with an explosive offense that is confident it can and will score runs against the talented pitching it expects to see this season.  The team’s defense will rely on the rookie pitching of sophomore Hannah Mumber.  Armed with the proven ability to tenaciously compete both athletically and academically, I am confident that Hannah will form a productive collaboration with battery mate, experienced and talented junior catcher, Dom Pinto, that will shut down our opponent’s offense.  In addition, the excellent leadership and athleticism of captains Michelle Hand in the infield and Alyssa Goldberg in the outfield will help solidify our defense allowing us to compete against the most talented teams in the state.
