COUNCIL ROCK NORTH SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Last year’s record: 18-7 PIAA State Quarterfinalist (1^st since the high schools split)

Notable losses: Sabrina Crane (Bryant University), Taylor Amazeen

Key returners:  Riley Sheehy (12^TH, CF), Taylor Briggs (12^TH, 3B), Lauren Begg (11^TH , P,1B,OF), Jenna Khantzian (11^th, P), Julianna Shields (11^th, SS)

Others to watch:  Katheryn Hastings (9^th, P)

Strengths/Question Marks:  “Team returns eleven of the fourteen girls that were in the dugout in last year’s PIAA state quarterfinal game. We will miss not having Sabrina and Taylor on the field and their leadership. The five seniors that stepped into a leadership position have done a great job taking over as program captains. This year’s team has worked hard in the offseason with hopes of playing in big games late in the season.”

Outlook:  “Team is led by five seniors that all have multiple years of varsity experience. We expect to compete in every game and grow as a program throughout the season. We learned from last year the importance of each girl bringing a positive attitude to the field every day, committed to doing their job to the best of their ability. This year’s team has players that understand that not everyone is a starter and solid role players are needed to get back to the state tournament.”
