LOWER MORELAND GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW
Coach: Rich Becker; 20th season at LM
Assistant coaches: Jerry Frasca; Ceili Courduff
Last year’s record: 17-9 overall, SOL Freedom Division champions
Notable losses: Amelia Brown
Key returners: Briana McFerran (Sr. Fwd); Dani Brusha (Sr. Gd); Emma DiJoseph (So. Gd); Molly Martin (So. Gd);
Others to watch: Mody Rossiter (Jr. Fwd), Maddie Broderick (So. Gd), Nikki Sahl (Sr. Fwd)
Strengths: Leadership and experience, we return five of our top six scorers from last year.
Question marks: We’re still sorting out rotations. Sydney Santoro might be out for the season, she made it easier for the coaches to make substitutions. Her versatility will be hard to replace.
Outlook: “My guess is that all of the coaches in our conference will be telling their girls something very similar: our conference will once again be very competitive. Last season, the conference championship was not decided until the last week of the year, this will probably be the case again this year. Cheltenham has at least three high level players and the ability to take over a game, Upper Moreland has size and depth, Tennent lost a few games last season by five points or less and they return their top players, Springfield has arguably the most gifted post player in the league, and New Hope will be well coached with strong guard play.
“As for Lower Moreland, we’ve been really happy with the start of the season. In practice, our girls have made it a concentrated effort to improve our weaknesses from last season. They’ve been focused, holding each other accountable and lifting each other up. We’re excited to see how the season plays out.”
