PENNRIDGE SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Wendy Iadonisi – first year with this program

Assistant coach: Steve Ryan

Last year’s record:  7-11 overall and 3-9 in the league

Notable losses:  Lost Kailyn Bell and Skylar Hengeveld who is getting playing time as a catcher at Kean University.

Key returners:  Our key returning seniors include Kiley Watson at shortstop and Mary Kate Levish in center (both 3-year starters) Morgan Henry a 2-year starter at first base. Senior Makenna Patterson will get the bulk of the pitching and fellow senior Emily Hegen will have a position in the infield or we have a lot of confidence in her to be an effective DH.  Our returning junior class includes Gianna Iadonisi, who will be a strong utility player helping in the infield or behind the plate, and Victoria Moscariello will help strengthen our outfield. We have two sophomores, Maddison Silber and Mackenzie Owens, who saw limited playing time last year, but we expect them to play key roles in our line up both offensively and defensively.

Others to watch: Junior Wiss Chiapetta, who has shown great mobility and glove work on the right side of the field, and junior Ashlyn McClelland, who we are confident will create a great 1-2 punch with fellow pitcher Makenna Patterson. Freshman Catelyn Thrush is a multi-faceted player that helps strengthen our roster no matter where we use her.  Our final roster spots belong to senior Kat Estep and sophomore Cassandra Schillo, who will add depth to our lineup.

Outlook:  “The team lost 10 of its last 11 games last season, so our primary goal is to finish with a better record and make it to playoffs.  We have a great balance to the team with returning players and newcomers, and the coaching staff is confident we can create lineups that will be much more competitive in both the league and non-league games.”
