PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH BASEBALL PREVIEW
Coach: CHRIS MANERO (2nd Year)
Assistant coaches: Eric Fisher, Phil Kelly, Dave Santoro, Jack Kavetski, Rob Luthy
Last year’s record: 5-15 Overall, 3-13 SOL American Conference
Notable losses: Austin DiBonaventure- SS (Chestnut Hill College), Rob Pecharo- 1B
Key returners: Matt Nardo- SR/SS, Jon Fisher- JR/RHP, Mike Whalon- SR/LHP, Zach Metz- JR/LHP, Connor Purdy- SR/OF, Dutch Reardon SO/C, IF, Will Kane- SR/OF
Others to watch: Ben Raeder- JR/LHP, Jordan Mitchell- SR/OF, Evan Bischoff- JR/IF
Strengths/Question Marks: The Colonials return four starting pitchers from last season with varsity experience. Jon Fisher (JR) (JMU verbal commit) is the lone right hander, joined by lefties Mike Whalon (SR), Zach Metz (JR), and Ben Raeder (JR). Most of the starters on the diamond this season started at the varsity level for the first time last season, and the expectation is that the experience gained last year will begin to pay dividends in 2014. Many of the players faced a learning curve last spring, but the goal is to show that hard work as a team throughout the summer, fall, and winter will begin to show results this spring.
Offensively, the team returns two of its top producers from a year ago in Matt Nardo (SR) and Connor Purdy (SR). Key shifts defensively are still in question and some Colonials will have to make adjustments in new spots on the field this season.
Outlook: “The Colonials will look to show marked improvement from 2013 and compete for a District I playoff spot.”
