PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW

Coach: T.J. DeLucia (5th year as Head Coach, 10th year in program)

Assistant coaches: Steve Slack, Crissy Terraces, Glen Hackett, Jewel Terraces, Sam Matthews

Last year’s record: SOL  4-4-2, Overall:  10-7-2
Qualified for District playoffs for 3rd year in a row, first time in school history

Notable losses:
Katie Lukens – first team all-league defender

Key returners: We have four returning all-league players in seniors Maddie McGuckien, Keira Whelan, Kaiane Jayo and junior Maddi Lazaroff. Seniors Maite Jayo and Marleigh Burton are poised for big seasons in midfield. Sophomore Harper Reilly is ready to build off her very impressive freshmen season. Seniors Mia Baron, Liv Budin, Maddie McLaughlin and keeper Olivia Bragg return to help lead this team on and off the field.

Others to watch: Freshmen Molly McEvoy and JJ Lafferty have come into the season ready to challenge for significant playing time on this veteran-heavy squad.

Strengths/Question Marks: “Our group is extremely talented, but they must stay together and increase/improve their communication on and off the field. Unfortunately, in this sport and in this league, mistakes are punished – and last year, mistakes cost us a home playoff game. We must play mistake-free soccer.”

Outlook: “Our nine seniors have played together for a long time. They are a fun group to be around and are enjoyable to watch play soccer when all are on the same page. Those nine mixing with a talented group of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen seem committed to taking PW Soccer to the next level. We hope to stay healthy and remain positive through a daunting league schedule.”
