PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH GOLF PREVIEW
Head Coach: George Wadlin, 12th year as head coach, 13th overall.
JV Coach: Jeff Kavanagh, 3rd year, former Wissahickon Head Coach
Last year’s record: 13-3-0 overall record, 2009 SOL American Conference Champions (12-2-0) , 2009 Pinecrest Invitational (2nd place), 6th-Place finish (237) in 2009 District One Team Tournament at Turtle Creek GC.
Key performer's lost: Five SOL American Conference All-League scholar-athletes: Alec Kissell (1st team), Jason Rosenbaum (1st team), Rob Bass (1st team), Rob Radicioni (2nd team) and Tom Barlow (2nd team).
Key returners: Senior Zack Pogust: 2009 Times Herald Player of the Year, 2009 SOL American Conference Champion, and 1st Team All-League. Junior Alfred Garvey (Honorable Mention), Senior Kenny Yanni (Honorable Mention).
Others to watch: Senior Nick Jefferies (2009 PW V2 champion), junior Matt Minetola, sophomore Evan Beaty, junior John Fritz, and sophomore Dom Aprile.
Strength/Weakness: Coach Wadlin and Coach Kavanagh are hoping to have many of the inexperienced golfers follow the lead of Zach Pogust and Alfred Garvey. Having lost five of eight all-league golfers could present a problem for the Colonials. However, new faces on the varsity roster worked hard during the off-season, even so much as to cut summer family vacations short to play golf.
Outlook: The Colonials have captured five SOL American Conference titles the past six seasons. Last year’s senior class provided many of the underclassman with the tools (dedication and hard work) and winning attitude that it takes to win championships. Unlike last season, the top eight positions are not totally secure, providing some freshman with an opportunity to challenge for varsity playing time.
