PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH SOFTBALL PREVIEW
Coach: Mike Perez (3rd year)
Assistant coaches: Alex Skivo, Christine Taunton, Emily Caffrey, John VanWie, Nicole Campbell
Last year’s record: 12-8 overall (11-6 league); 17th in 6A District 1 standings; lost in 1st round to Souderton
Notable losses: Carly Rosenberger (Emerson College), Emily Caffrey, Regan Gehman, Talia Carr, Hannah Suh, Marissa Dudek, Molly Lynch, Charley Tassoni
Key returners: Lauryn Kane (Senior, 3B), Molly Moore (Junior, P), Marissa Perez (Sophomore, SS), Julie Price (Sophomore, OF), Haylie Lindley (Sophomore, Util)
Others to watch: Grace Carney (Junior, 1B/OF), Jaclyn Porter (Junior, C), Sam Skivo (Sophomore, OF/1B), Caelin Kosvitch (Sophomore, OF/C), Marissa Caroluzzi (Sophomore, C)
Strengths/Question Marks: The Colonials will be led offensively by St. Francis-bound Senior slugger, Lauryn Kane. Returning starters, Molly Moore and Marissa Perez look to build off last year’s success at the plate. Look for the young bats of Haylie Lindley, Julie Price, Sam Skivo and Grace Carney to make some noise this season and new starters Caelin Kosvitch and Marissa Caroluzzi to keep the lineup moving. Junior ace Molly Moore will anchor the pitching staff, with plenty of pitching depth behind her. With six new starters in the lineup, and only one senior on the roster, PW will look for many underclassmen to step up this season in all facets of the game.
Outlook: “After a hard-fought, walk-off loss to Souderton in the first round of the district playoffs last season, PW is looking to build off of that experience in 2022. With six new starters, the team is young and lacks Varsity experience, but we are hopeful about the new group’s potential. We will look to our team Captains (Kane, Moore, Carney & Perez) for leadership as we make the transition. A district title and advancement in the playoffs is always a team goal.”
