Souderton Boys' Basketball Preview

SOUDERTON BOYS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Pete Chimera – First year

Assistant coaches:  Jim Seaton, Chris Casperson, Nate Alcott, and Dave Lotier

Last year’s record:  20-8 overall 12-2 in the league Finished 6th in the district 1, qualified for State playoffs

Notable losses: Luke Moyer (Richmond) Ryan Connelly (Kutztown) Mark Wonderling (Ursinus)

Key returners: John Kanas Sr G/F (John is only returning starter) Brendan Wagner 6’8” Center, and Steve Shaffer Jr. PG.

Others to watch: Austin Murphy G Sr. and Anthony Williams G/F Sr.

Strengths/Question Marks:  Our strength will be our size and interior strength with Wagner and Kanas.  We should be a very aggressive and strong defensive team.  We also have good depth with eight seniors on the team who may at times all contribute.  I think our question marks will be, we are old but except for John Kanas we don’t have much varsity experience and we need to find a way to replace the 46 points a game we lost from last year and implement a new system.

Outlook:  As always, we expect to compete for the league a title, but it will surely be a challenge with a pretty strong league this year.  CB South returns a lot of players and should be very good and Hatboro-Horsham has arguably the two best players in the league in Mike Brown and Zach Quatro.

GAMES TO WATCH:
12/7 – Opening night at Church Farm School we play Perkiomen  School, a team that is usually very experienced and outstanding.  They were 25 -3 last year
12/18 Vs Hatboro-Horsham – good early season test to see where we are.  Also emotional return for me personally as I spent the last six seasons on Coach Steinly’s staff.
2/5 Vs CB South – Hopefully a crucial end of the season game
12/27 – 12/28 - Triangle Club Tournament with Central Dauphin and Norristown, great competition
