SOUDERTON GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW
Coach: Jim O’Neill, 17 years
Last year’s record: 2-5 league, 2-7 overall
Key losses: Leah Novak, Danielle Connor, Saralyn Knechel, Kaylin Mansley
Key Returnees: Melanie Tramontina (SR) Maddie Goertel (SR) Steph Dowd (JR) Natalie Ross (JR) Sarah Hughes (JR) Jill Batten (SO)
Others to watch:Tori Bulgier (SO) Jess Offner (SO) Georgia Ernst (SO) Reaghan Murphy (FR) Hope Ferebee (FR) Noelle Noble (FR) Natalie Bulgier (FR) Amber Lambeth (FR)
Strengths: “The team will be led by an experienced runner in Tramontina. Behind her, two juniors - Ross and Hughes - continue to improve and have developed into solid varsity performers. The rest of the varsity will be comprised from a slew of new talented young athletes.”
Question marks: “Injuries have set back the number two and three runners from last year, so the varsity will be counting on inexperienced runners to carry the load until they get healthy. That lack of experience also will not get many breaks in what should be a super competitive league schedule.”
Outlook: “The leadership, chemistry and work ethic of this team has been great, and they seem excited about the upcoming season. With so many new runners there should be a great deal of improvement throughout the season.”
Coach’s comments: “I am really excited about this season and curious to see if this team can take a big step forward!”
