Upper Moreland Girls' Basketball Preview

UPPER MORELAND GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach: Matt Carroll, 7th year at Upper Moreland

Assistant coaches: Pete Williams, Kyle Blacken

Last year’s record: 17-8 (13-3 in league)

Notable losses: Kiera Coyle (2nd team All-League), Emma Hurley (Honorable Mention)

Key returners: EmmyFaith Wood (12/G, 1st team All-League), Holly Gohl (11/F, 1st team All-League), Mikel Lancit (10/G, 2-year starter

Others to watch:  “It seems like we keep saying this every year, but this seems to be our most talented team since I’ve been here. Allie LaRocco (12/F) and Alyssa Wiley (12/G) may lack varsity playing experience, but they have waited patiently for their turn and are ready to grab the bull by the horns. Marie Meyers (10/G) and Lily Hansen (10/F) have had incredible off-seasons as sophomores and are poised to play important roles on this team.”

Strengths/Question Marks: “We are well-balanced this year with skilled guards, shooting and post play. To go along with that balance, we have more true basketball players in our top eight than in years past. Three of our top eight are sophomores, so we just have to make sure they are ready for varsity basketball. All signs are they are ready to go, it’s just getting all of the different pieces to mesh well with a shortened pre-season”

Outlook: “Last year was another season where we saw some success but came up short on some of our goals. Returning three starters in Mikel Lancit, EmmyFaith Wood and Holly Gohl will help kick-start our offense as we try to win our league for the third straight year. We are deeper this year than year’s prior and won’t have to rely on EmmyFaith and Holly to carry the load. We are hoping with a busy off-season, a more difficult non-league, and a balanced scoring attack, we will be able to accomplish goals we left unchecked last year.”
