Upper Moreland Girls' Basketball Preview

UPPER MORELAND GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach: Matt Carroll, 4th year at Upper Moreland

Assistant coaches: Scott Merrill, Mark Wasson, Pete Williams

Last year’s record: 14-9 (8-6 in league)

Notable losses:  Phoebe Longstreth (3rd team all-league)

Key returners: Bean Hughes (12/F, 1st team all-league)

Others to watch: “We return 7 of our top 9 from last year’s district playoff qualifier, including 4 starters, and add a few underclassmen who had great offseasons and are ready to take the next step”

Strengths/Question Marks: “From our seniors all the way down to our freshmen, this is our most talented group since our coaching staff took over 4 years ago. This year we can go as deep as 10 girls with full confidence in each of those 10 to contribute when asked. The mixture of experience and talent will allow us to adjust from game-to-game, something we haven’t had the luxury in the past. The question marks are no longer if someone will contribute when the time comes, but who will it be from game to game.”

Outlook: “We are really looking forward to this season with a much more challenging non-league than past years. We have consistently improved our on-the-court product as well as our win total in each of the past 3 seasons but we have yet to accomplish a lot of our desired goals. We know taking the next step as a program is the biggest hurdle but we are ready and excited to do whatever it takes.”
