WISSAHICKON GIRLS’ SOCCER
Coach: Shannon Franke (1st year)
Assistant coaches: Christian Johnston, Mike Ford
Last year’s record: Suburban One, American - finished 7-3-1, third place in 2010 fall season. Overall finished 9-7-2
Notable losses: Eva Esposito, Alex Schaeffer, and Jackie Caridorrini.
Key returners: Maureen Beichert, 12th Grade, Inside Mid. Cailin Grey, 11th Grade, Inside Back. Rachel Stone, 11th Grade, Goal Keeper.
Others to watch: Freshmen Chelsea Johnson (outside back), and Anna Chiodo-Ortiz (striker). Although young players, they have raw talent and will no doubt become pivotal players for Wissahickon this season and beyond. Also keep an eye on latecomer to high school soccer, senior Katie Ziegler, a tall, fast frontmen with a wicked hard shot.
Strengths: Wissahickon’s strengths lie in strong restarts fueled by Cailin Grey’s head for the goal, as well as 12th grader Maureen Beichert, an anchor in midfield. Also an asset on and off the pitch and as a team leader is goaltender Rachel Stone. As a junior, this is Rachel’s third season as starting keeper for our team.
Question marks: Backfield strength/experience – hoping to fill two outside spots to help returning central backs Cailin Grey and Laura Frankenfield.
Outlook: “In this first year as head coach, I am excited about the potential strength in growth of this young team. With returning captains Maureen Beichert, Cailin Grey, and goalkeep Rachel Stone’s help as well as returning Coaches Christian Johnston and Mike Ford, I hope to bolster our young players and gain momentum as this 2011 fall season unfolds.”
