Wissahickon Wrestling Preview

WISSAHICKON WRESTLING PREVIEW

Head coach: Anthony Stagliano (10 years @ Wissahickon, 35 overall)

Last year’s record: 17-5. Suburban One - American Conference League Champion. District One - South District Champion.

Notable losses: Mark Thompson, Brian Fennell, Peter Sweeney, and Charlie Brammer.

Key returners: Sr. Dan Keller (195/220), Sr. Kevin Salmon (170/182), Jr. Matthew Fritz (132/138),

Jr. Alex Prieston (126/132), So. DJ Adriaanse (120/126).

Other to watch:  Sr. Chritian Smalley (126/132), Jr. Owen Dowling (152/160).

Strengths: Return five very good wrestlers including State Qualifier Dan Keller, who has 78 career wins. Good team numbers 35-plus.

Weaknesses: Very young team with 11 freshmen and 11 sophomores.

Outlook:  “After winning both the league and district title last year, it will be hard to repeat, but we hope to at least be in the mix to compete for another league title this year. Our path to the title will be a bit harder with the loss of four quality seniors. Right now, I would give the edge to Abington and Hatboro-Horsham with PW in the mix as well.”
