The Hatboro-Horsham Hatters dropped a SOL American Conference game at home against the first place Quakertown Panthers on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 5-2.

Quakertown scored first in the first inning when Sean Brennan and Justin Guidos lead off the game with walks. Brennan eventually scored on Brian Robison’s sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Hatters knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore catcher Benny Wilson reached on an error. Courtesy runner Ryley Robinson scored after consecutive singles by senior designated hitter Matt Johnson and senior centerfielder Jake Mayson.

The Panthers took the lead again in the top of the third inning. Bradley Bryan reached via hit by pitch to lead off the inning. He later scored on a single to centerfield by Dennis Pierce.

The Hatters answered back in the bottom of the third to tie the game again, at 2-2. Freshmen leftfielder Jimmy Tooley led off the inning with a single. After stealing second, Tooley advanced to third on a dropped fly ball. He then scored on a sac fly by senior rightfielder Shane Carpenter.

The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Pierce reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to second when Robison walked and then scored on J.J. Paul’s single to right field. Quakertown extended the lead in the top of the fifth to 5-2 on a 2 RBI single by Justin Guidos.

Guidos not only helped the offense, but he turned in a stellar effort on the mound for the Panthers, as well. He threw a complete game, registering 11 strikeouts while walking none and allowing just 5 hits and 0 earned runs. Hatters starting pitcher Alex Crim competed on the mound allowing 3 runs, all earned, over 5 innings on 4 hits and 5 walks, while striking out 4.

The Hatters (4-10 Overall, 4-6 SOL American Conference) will travel to Wissahickon on Thursday for a SOL American Conference match-up against former Hatters pitching coach Andy Noga and the Trojans.
