Souderton beat Quakertown 1-0 in a classic twelve inning pitcher’s duel between the top two SOL Continental teams. The pitchers from both teams combined for 36 strikeouts. Souderton starter Erik Ritchie went five and two-thirds innings giving up just 3 hits. He struck out 12 Quakertown batters while walking 2. Luke Taylor got the win in relief. He threw six and one-third innings striking out nine. Ritchie and Taylor teamed up for the shutout. Quakertown starter Cody Barbiero and reliever Dennis Pierce combined to no-hit Souderton through 11 innings. Barbiero had eight strikeouts and Pierce seven. It took until the bottom of the twelfth inning for Souderton to get its first hit and ultimately the game’s only run. Billy Norbeck grounded to third reaching base on an error. Hogan Despain bunted the courtesy runner, Evan Bromiley, to second. Conlan Wall was intentionally walked for the second time on the day putting runners at first and second. Souderton followed with their only two hits of the game. Luke Taylor lined to left loading the bases. Jacob Horton ended the game on a single to right center. Mason Hick and Nolan Byrnes each had two hits for Quakertown on the day. Souderton is off until next Tuesday when they play North Penn. Quakertown will play on the road against CB West tomorrow.
