This was our third game in four days and to win all in three different ways speaks to the character of our team. Tuesday night we shot 19% from the floor and won in OT, Wed was a nice win and today our girls showed. The 2nd and 3rd quarters were the two best quarters we've played all season and to beat a team like PW, you need that type of total team effort.
I have so much respect for Dan, how he runs his program. That's why today was so rewarding. I can't say we out executed our out coached them, our girls just made their shots. We had 53 points on 47 attempts and different girls stepped up in different roles.
We expected them to try and deny both Dani and Bri and that was the focus of yesterdays practice. Our "other" players were going to have to come through for us and they did.
Mady Rossiter made some defensive adjustments and her post defense was huge for us. For the middle two quarters it made PW a little more one-dimensional on offense than they probably wanted to be.
Mikki Sahl and Emma DiJoseph both made the most of their offensive opportunities and were strong defensively on the perimeter.
They face guarded Bri, and even though she only had 5 points she had 12 rebounds and late in the game, she altered 2 potentially open 3's.
Dani continues to be a rock star. Despite being heavily pressured the entire game, she finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Our player of the game was Maddie Broderick who came of the bench and had 11 points on 4 - 6 shooting (3 - 4 from beyond the arc).
Key Moments:
Team moment #1 - Changing defenses to start the 2nd quarter. We like to get up and down, but they were better at that than us, so that change from man to zone was huge for us. We Took them out of their rhythm and out-scored them 18 - 3 and went into halftime up by 10.
At halftime we talked to the girls about playing like we're down 10 and delaying PW's run. We knew at some point they would get hot and the longer we could delay that the better. Their run came at the start of the fourth quarter. From the start of the 4th to 4:45 remaining in the game we were shut out. They hit a 3 to make it 46 - 43.
Play of the game: Off of the make that cut our lead to 3, the girls got the ball in quickly, pushed in transition and Maddie Broderick hit a huge corner 3 to put us back up by 6.
Team Moment # 2: After Maddie's 3 we had two defensive possessions down the stretch that ate up a lot of clock. After Maddie's 3, they took 43 seconds off of the clock and and did not score. With 3 minutes to go, they got it down to 4 and once again Maddie scored in transition to put us back up by 6 and their next possession lasted 56 seconds before they were able to get a shot off. Once they missed, we were able to take some time off of the clock and finish out the game.
This was easily our best game and best win of the year.
