Abington 2
Hatboro Horsham 1
Junior center-mid, Maeve Link, scored the first goal of the game, unassisted in the 2nd quarter, and junior forward, Janice Coonahan quickly followed with another unassisted goal to put Abington up 2-0 at the half. Hatboro Horsham was able to answer in the 4th quarter with a goal, but Abington was able to hold them off to record the win in their first game of the season.
Maeve Link stepped up big today and helped set the tempo of the game for us. She had a hand in both offensive and defensive plays, which were key to getting the win.
Janice Coonahan also worked hard on the offensive end and her break away one-on-one goal showed her desire and ability to put the ball in the net.
Junior forward, Brooke Dougherty, also played a key role and was an offensive catalyst by helping get the ball up the field and into Hatboro's circle. Her speed and hustle allowed us to get many offensive opportunities, today.
Sophomore defensive back, Morgan Gillette, stepped up on the defensive end and made two huge plays to prevent Hatboro from getting the ball in the net. Senior mid-fielder, Sophia Afflisio also made some key plays in the mid-field, to help prevent Hatboro from getting scoring opportunities.
Senior goalie, Caitlin Murcar, recorded 4 saves in the first half, while sophomore goalie, Keely Gallagher recorded 3 clutch saves in the 2nd half, to preserve the win.
It was a great team win today for us today! After working hard in practice this past week on things we knew we needed to improve on, the girls came out ready to play. They really started to gel as a team and in their respective positions today, which was nice to see. I’m very proud of how everyone played, and stepped up, to record a nice team win.
