Upper Moreland came out fired up for our first game of the season!
UM Soccer, Football and Field hockey teams all played Interboro today, so there was a spirited atmosphere on campus!
This was an all-around team win for the Bears who have a very committed group of players with excellent senior leadership. Our offense really came together today, exploding for 6 goals.
Sophomore Olivia Torres had 2 goals and 3 assists, while senior Ella Gould received the game ball for her outstanding performance having a hand in the first 3 goals of the game. Gould started off the scoring with a shot in front of the cage off an assist from another senior Melissa Torpey. Torpey did an awesome job controlling the ball on the right side of the field all day.
The team and Ella’s 2nd goal was off of a corner. We have been working hard on our corners in preseason and just haven’t gotten many. So today, we focused on using our stickwork to cause Interboro to foul, so that we could get more corners. We got 13 corners and did not allow any for Interboro. On the 2nd corner of the game, Gould inserted the ball to Olivia Torres, who shot and Gould tipped it in. With time out in the 1st quarter, Olivia Torres ripped a drive from the top of the circle ( assist Gould) to make the score 3 - 0.
Junior forward Soph Riehle scored in the 2nd and 3rd quarters off of assists from forward MJ Riley and Olivia Torres’ 2nd assist. And the spunky Torres was not done as she scored the final goal of the game unassisted to finish her 4 point performance! Defensively, Torres had 6 successful take away tackles while Ella Gould recorded 4 .
The Bears midfielders Bridget Hess ( 10th grade) , Ella Gould and Taylor Pagano (10th grade) did an amazing job moving the ball up the field and not allowing Interboro to have scoring chances.
This team has worked very hard in the off season playing winter league, summer league and some players went to a camp at Millersville. Today was a great start to what will hopefully be an awesome season for the Bears!
Congratulations to the Interboro goalie for recording her 500th save!
