Upper Moreland Comments
A bit of excitement was added to our first league game by making it a night game! The Upper Moreland team wants to thank the many fans that came to support us including UM faculty, staff, students, youth field hockey players, family and friends! Everyone enjoyed a thrilling contest with a lot of exciting circle play!
In the first quarter, the Bears took many shots and forced several corners, but were not able to score. Then 6 minutes into the 2nd quarter, Soph Riehle got a pass from midfielder Ella Gould to sweep a hard shot into the net for her first career varsity goal. But 3 minutes later, the Panthers got a corner and scored to tie it up.
Quickly after halftime, freshman Olivia Torres got the ball in front of the keeper and spun around to put the ball past the defenders to put the Bears back on top.
The Bears continued to pressure WT in the 2nd half. Ella Gould and Melissa Torpey were relentless with great passing, dodging and not letting the ball past the midfield. On the defensive end, Izzy Duncan played more aggressively stepping up to get the ball and moving up to the attack for scoring opportunities. De Backs Mackenzie Reilly and Kelly Bates were very effective to not let the Panthers get into our defensive circle.
Freshman Bridget Hess, one of our hardest workers was steady behind Kyleigh Convey as they moved the ball well down the side of the field.
Then in the 4th quarter, our “spark” Charleis Fayall scored the insurance goal for her first career varsity goal with an assist from Ella Gould.
Goalies Addi Hurley had 2 saves for the Bears and Ash Conrad finished with 1 save.
