The Abington Ghosts secured sole possession of the Suburban One National title by holding off a pesky Pennsbury Falcon team by a 13-9 score in rain-soaked Schwarzman Stadium at Abington High School's Senior Night. The weather made for some sloppy play with many slips and errant passes from both teams, but the game was fast paced and exciting.
Abington started out looking like they would again route the Falcons, who lost at home to the Ghosts on April 23d by a 16-4 score, with quick scores by Joey Jones and Nick Pisko. Pennsbury's Dan Caggia got the Falcons on the board at the nine minute mark before the Ghosts' Joey Jones nailed another shot for a 3-1 Abington lead. Calvin Hopkins responded with a goal for the Falcons, but Abington answered quickly with a rifle shot by Rich Rambo and then a running shot by his brother Matt Rambo to extend the Abington lead to 5-2 with four minutes to go in the quarter. But Pennsbury showed they were going to make a game of it by striking back with a Dan Caggia goal (one of four on th day) to end the high-scoring first quarter at 5-3 Abington.
The second period was more of a defensive struggele, with Pennsbury holding off a man-down situation to start the quarter and playing the high-flying Ghosts to a stand-still until the ever-present Joey Jones scored in close off a precise Ryan Ambler feed. This was followed by two quick goals by the Rambo brother – the first one by Rich, and, not to be outdone by his older brother, by Matt, which brought the score to 8-3 Abington. It looked like it was off to the rackes, but Pennsbury dug deep and stopped the offensive onslaught and added another goal by Dan Caggia, assisted by Shawn Caven, to bring the halftime score to 8-4.
A minute into the second half, Joey Jones again tallied for the Ghosts, but the Falcons began an offensive breakout with goals by Shawn Caven and Tim Considine on an assist by long-pole Lewis Sears while the defense held Abington in check for the rest of the period. The rally continued into the fourth quarter as Tim Considine again score for the Falcons and brought them within two at 9-7. Abington made some breathing room with a Nick Pisko goals and yet another Joey Jones goal (one of his five on the day), but Pennsbury scratched their way back with Caggia's fourth goal of the contest, assisted by Considine to make the score 11-8.
Pennsbury was handed an opportunity when Rich Rambo was assessed a two minute penalty for a late hit on the Falcon's Considine, who had just dished out the assist. Play stopped as Considine was down on the field for approximately 10 minutes as he was attended to by the Abington trainer. Fortunately, he was able to walk off on his own. When play resumed Pennsbury was not able to convert on the extended man-up, with Abington controlling the face-off and killing most of the penalty. With under two minutes to go and nursing the 11-8 lead, Matt Rambo iced the game with two quick goals. But Pennsbury was not done fighting and answered back with a Ricky Jutkiewicz goals with under a minute to go. The game ended with a save by Abington goalie Jesse McGinley on a hard shot by Luke Matthews of the Falcons.
Pennsbury was led by a remarkable four goal performance from Dan Caggia, stepping in for last year's leading scorer Kenneth Warren, who is out with an injury sustained in the prior Abington game. The Falcon face-off team of Shawn Caven, Evan Caterson and Tim Considine also combined to win 16 of 25 face-offs. Also contributing to the Falcon effort were Tim Considine (2g, 1a), Shawn Caven (1g, 1a), and Calvin Hopkins (1g, 1a). Abington was led by Joey Jones' stellar (5g, 3a), Matt Rambo (4g), Nick Pisko (2g) and Rich Rambo (2g, 1a).
The win puts the Pennsbury Falcons at 15 - 2 for the year and 7-2 in the Suburban One National conference, while the Abington Ghosts are 17-1 on the year and 10-0 in the Suburban One National conference. Congratulations to the Abington Ghosts on their SOL National title.

Up 5-3 after 1, the Abington defense, especially Chris Duffy and Anthony Greco, held off a long Pennsbury offensive possession. Then Rich Rambo got the ball and drove an attempted check offsides to give the Ghosts a man up opportunity. They scored three straight and seemed to be on cruise control. Pennsbury got one back before half and came out strong in the second half. Down 9-4, Pennsbury's three straight goals (Shawn Caven -1, Tim Considine - 2) closed the game to 9-7. Up 11-8, Abington got 2 quick goals from Matt Rambo just inside 2:00 to ice the game. Pennsbury got one back to end the scoring.
