Cheltenham came out with the win in a non conference matchup today. Heading into the 4th quarter with a 9-3 lead, Cheltenham had to be very intentional with their decision making in the last few minutes of play. Dock picked up momentum after a few quick goals from a yellow card man down situation, but ultimately Cheltenham came out with the win.
By the numbers: Cheltenham: Brianna Gardner (3goals, 4DC), Mia Haugen (1 goals, 3 DC), Maggie Leighton (3 goals) Marelle Johnston (1 goal), Ella King (1 goal), Megan Robinson (10saves).
Cheltenham coach Emily Towey: “Our defense had some incredible stops in the first two quarters allowing our girls to take the lead in the beginning of the game. Attack was producing on fast breaks and settled because of smart decision making. When we got a yellow card forcing us man down, we fell a little short in adapting but overall played really well. This was a great reminder that it’s never over til it’s over. Dock had a strong momentum run in the fourth quarter and kept us on our toes. Every game is an opportunity to learn and grow, and I think we did exactly that. Brianna Gardner really led us on both ends of the field today- she’s an asset to our program in so many ways."
Up next: The Panthers (9-6 overall, 3-6 SOL ) host Quakertown for a 3:30 Tuesday conference matchup.
