Ellen is an excellent coach and we have always struggle with success against PW historically. Players on both teams have played with each other in PAGLA or on a club team for many years, so there is very little that is unknown at this point. Freshman Grace Harvey really came to play today and is someone we are going to have deal with for many years to come.
PW did a great job of pressuring the ball defensively and their willingness to be patient with a lot of ball movement offensively really wore down our midfield. We don't have a deep bench to begin with and two players were not available today. So we asked a lot of Sophia Stehlik, Sam Farno and Lila Marciniak today and they showed some serious grit. They definitely earned what they got from that post-game ice cream truck.
Lex McCabe did a great job of leading the team offensively. We struggled for most of the first half and into the second getting the ball up the field in transition. Way too many turnovers. But when we really needed it, Lex scored all three goals in the 3rd quarter when it looked like the game could go either way.
We were able to hold them scoreless in the 2nd quarter and for the final 9:45 in the fourth. We were down one player with 2:08 left to play and then two players for the final minute. Great job by Ava Fell in goal making some key saves and also to Ellie Stein, who had another really strong game running the defense for us.
