Bensalem Comments
Bensalem won its 7th game in a row to match last years win total with 6 games to play. They beat Penn Wood 6-0 this afternoon.

Bensalem started less mix of players on the field but mostly players that haven’t had a lot of minutes recently. I wanted to get some kids some valuable experience and give them some confidence on the field. Some games it’s hard to get a lot of different kids into the game but everyone played today and our keeper, Chris Rowan, even played striker. He has a bunch of chances but wasn’t able to connect on any of his breaks. He had a blast though. Sometimes that’s what it’s all about.

For scoring, Brian Gibson has the first goal beating defender 1v1 and slotting home an easy shot. Then Kyle Maloney had a long throw-in towards Jon Larbi but it was hit in for an own goal. The third goal was a breakaway by Jon Larbi for an easy goal in the bottom corner of the net.

Goal number 4 was also by Larbi as he beat a couple of players baseline and the keeper moved out of position to defend the cross and Jon just passed the ball into the far right corner. The 5th goal was by Jose Rivera was sent on a breakaway on a great through ball by Brendan Callahan. Jose beat the keeper with a shot right outside the 18. The final goal was by Elliott Cifuentes assisted by Chris Russo who also went on a breakaway and slotted the ball into the side of the net.

All in all it was a good game and a good way to end our week, with a couple of days off now to recover and get ready for 2 tough SOL games next week. We had a lot of offsides calls against us and that was a bit concerning but they were all eager to go to goal, so it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

We will take the weekend off and come into training on Monday and work hard.

The Owls play host to Tennent next week and then travel to Pennsbury. It’s gonna be a hard couple of games but we are excited for the games and we will be ready.
