The Bensalem Owls won 3-2 in OT in good match up with the Pennsbury Falcons. The game honored the Owls’ Senior Class before hand and the game started slow for the Owls. The Owls gave up a really early goal in the first few minutes on some miscommunication by the defense. The Falcons were able to continue some early pressure and it led to another goal and out the Owls in an early hole.

The teams fought pretty even the rest of the half and the Owls were able to pull within one goal with less than 5 minutes remaining in the half. The goal was scored on a restart by Nikita who headed home Hunter Shay’s kick. “Going down early was something we did a lot last season and I had hoped we wouldn’t do again this year” said Coach Rob Brown. At halftime we calmed the boys down and gave some instruction and we were able to get the equalizer on loose ball that popped out to Ronaldo Montero who hit the ball on the volley caught the keeper out of goal. Brian Gibson was awarded the assist on the play and really gave a lot of life to the Owls. The rest of the game went back and forth and Harsh Shah made some key stops in goal for the Owls to keep it 2-2 as the time expired.

In overtime there weren’t a ton of chances but with under 2 minutes left in the first OT Brian Gibson got the ball outside and made a nice hesitation move to beat his defender and he slid the ball across to Omar Padilla for the finish and the game winner! It was a great way to end Senior Night and kind of ironic that only Juniors Scored but all of the assists came from Seniors!

It was a good game and I’m really just happy these kids had the opportunity to play the sport they all love so much. I know this league is tough and our schedule doesn’t get any easier this season. We just look to the next one on Friday at Upper Moreland. I know this was a weird offseason and summer break but our kids continued to stay involved with Nike run challenges with our phones, weekly zoom calls and more. Just because we weren’t with the kids didn’t mean my assistants and I didn’t continue to work with them. This senior class in particular has worked hard and I am happy to see there hard work start the season off with a win. Pennsbury will be tough at their place and we look forward to the season!
