Bensalem got off to a great start and scored their first goal in the first 12 minutes. Blain Zavala, outside back, stepped up and received a ball played out and he ripped a shot from about 45 yards out. The ball dipped and moved and beat the keeper for the early lead.
The Owls then got another goal off a corner kick from Hunter Shay. Jon Larbi was able to get on the end of it to deflect it into the goal away from the keeper. Jon missed a breakaway, trying to chip the keeper to give the Owls the 3-0 lead but the Owls were able to get the third before halftime anyway.
Ryan Antry went down the sideline and beat his man 1v1. After getting a couple of steps on his man he ripped a shot into the lower left corner! It was a great individual effort play from Ryan. He had just gone back in after taking a few minute breather and to adjust some plays. We encourage our players to go with pace to goal. We love when the kids are selfish and try to score. We make sure they understand the moments when they can go to goal or when they should be looking to dish the ball or play a cross. It’s all soccer IQ stuff. Most of our players are very smart when it comes to the game. It makes my job easy. I just have to manage the players and the substitutions.
Chris Rowan saves a great shot near the end to hold on to the shutout. That’s 3 shutouts in 4 games. Chris has been the man back there and we are very fortunate to have some one we trust back there, no matter what is thrown at him. He has really grown so in the past 3-4 weeks. He’s a great kid and a part of our leadership.
Tennent never gave up and kept fighting. They are a tough group and we were happy to get out with the W today.
Our next game is going to be a tough battle. We know all teams have having a hard time with Pennsbury. Our first game was 8-5 but we have grown so much from that. We are looking forward to the challenge.
