Senior night games are always a little different in the beginning, the ceremonies and lineups can cause some disconnect but tonight I thought we started off very well, our seniors set the tone early in how we wanted to play, but credit to Bensalem. They were very well organized, closed up the spaces and connected very well out of the back at times. Although we had some half chances we couldn't find the the net in the first half.
At half time we stressed a little more patience and better use of the ball in certain areas of the field, and although we did that it was Bensalem who scored first with around 25 mins left in the game. A long range shot that was deflected looped in over Grace. At that point a lot of teams would've panicked but I give great deal of credit to our girls for continuing to play with a purpose and not just lump the ball forward. We eventually equalized through a great strike from Morgan McCaffrey from 25 yards, after that we just kept knocking on the door and eventually Sammy Judge found Taylor Brennan who was able to escape her defender and bend a left footed shot into the far corner.
Our possession and 22 shots on goal probably deserved the win tonight, but Bensalem were very good, their record is not a fair indication of the talent, organization and spirit of the group.
The composure of our senior group was really important this evening, they never panicked, they listened to our instructions and executed them. That mentality was crucial in getting the victory, and is vitally important as we push for the playoffs next week.
