A close game tonight and pleased to get the win against a rival. Coming off a tough loss to Neshaminy yesterday and facing South, we knew that it would be long grind tonight but credit to the girls for digging deep and holding firm at the end to get the win.
We were a little shaky to start the game and South had plenty of energy, once we got hold of the ball I thought we played some really good soccer at times in the first half. We scored in the first 15 minutes when Sara Tyler was able to find Mia Cairone who finished in the bottom corner. After that we had a couple of scares, Reese Ludwig came up with two really good saves but we also remained dangerous, Mia hit the post twice , and Audrey Rogan was really unlucky not to score on a great save from the South keeper.
At the start of the second half South came out strong and we were definitely concerned but we rode the storm and started to gain more possession although we couldn't find a second goal. Inevitably in the last few minutes it seemed like the ball wouldn't get out of our end, but our defensive players and Reese in goal really came through.
On the second game of a back to back I was really happy with how we played, and the energy we gave to get the win. We continue to talk about our depth, and tonight was no different. Our defensive players, Bella Lanza, Audrey Thomson, Alexa Pikul, Kinsley Smith, Amber Yuan and Amanda Gardner did a really good job at chasing runners, blocking shots and defending crosses and set pieces. Reese Ludwig did an excellent job in goal this evening and overall it really was a good team win.
