A really important win for us today against a league opponent. We are incredibly proud of girls after a long lay off , to come back with a performance like that after not playing a game for 2 weeks was fantastic.
In the first half Pennsbury dominated us for long periods. We were on our heels a little and couldn’t find any real possession. Mairin Coghlan came up with a couple of really good saves and our defensive work as a team allowed us to stay even at half time.
We talked at half about our group effort and what it would take to be successful today as well as a couple of tactical adjustments when we won the ball.
Pennsbury has a really strong spine with Darrien Furness , Emily Welsh and Taylor Mays. Trying to play through them is very difficult, and it was their spine that created their goal. They won a 50/50 I. The middle and Taylor Mays burst through to finish over our keeper.
As the game wore on we began to exert a little more pressure and eventually equalized off a scramble on a corner kick with a few mins left.
Our girls were highly motivated at that point and early in OT Taylor Brennan cut in from the outside and fired a left footed shot right into the top corner.
Our intensity was excellent today and although it was really a true team effort I thought that Sophia Gile was excellent in the middle of the field for us. Her work rate and aggressiveness changed the dynamic of the game in the last 20 mins and OT. Both Mairin and Grace made some good saves and our back 4 was solid throughout.
